Spidar haptic interface was invented in 1989 in Yokohama by Prof. Makoto Sato. During two decades, many colleagues develop many variations of Spdiar and improve its technologies such as mechanism, circuits and softwares. In 2000 Dr. Sabine Coquillart found and integrated SPIDAR into her work bench. After that she developed many applications and virtual environments with Spidar. Her group also give many suggestions and clues and extend Spidar collaborating with Sato's group. It was a big turning point for SPIDAR. SPIDAR began to spread into France and all over the Europe.
Spidar and its user spread around the world and sharing of knowledge becomes important. 2009 is 20th anniversary of Spidar. It is good chance to celebrate the growth of the Spidar and its research and to share our knowledge and vision. So, we plan to organize Spidar Annivsersary Symposium during JVRC 2009 held in Lyon which is organized by Dr. Sabine Coquillart and INRIA.
The symposium will be a half day oral session in the morning of Dec. 9. We call for participation of oral presentations concerning Spidar. Abstracts and papers for presention will be published in a report of JVRC including demos, posters, lab presentations and industrial presentations, and also available electronically.
Submissions can be up to 6 pages in length. They should be "camera ready" PDF files (only) with full author names and affiliations, using the Eurographics format (see call for papers and submission section of JVRC 2009). Submissions and questions can be directed to the "Spidar Aniverary Symposium chairs: sas [at] haselab.hi.mce.uec.ac.jp". There will be a selection, depending on the number of submissions.
